In 2014 the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the Department for Transport (DfT) commissioned a Survey of Noise Attitudes around nine airports in England in 2014 called SoNA14.

The survey sampled local residents based on their exposure to aircraft noise. People were asked what they thought about aircraft noise. They were asked whether aircraft noise bothered, annoyed or disturbed them.

Placewise Ltd and Stephen Turner Acoustics commented on the type of sampling strategy that was used. They considered how noise exposure was measured. They made recommendations about how the data could be analysed and the way in which the results were presented.
